Please send an e-mail to your friendly techheads at production to let us know we're getting your ad this way.

E-mail:
While we encourage a limit of 10 megabytes, files of up to 300 megabytes total may be submitted via e-mail to production.

PC submissions should be compressed with ZIP to save time and to reduce the submission to a single file.

Mac submissions should be compressed with Stuffit. Otherwise, some files may be mangled in the transmission process.

Format:

A full discussion of the issues behind submitting workable files for offset print is beyond the scope of this site. However, Mike's Sketchpad is an excellent learning resource for electronic publishing.

Acrobat (pdf) files work well, as long as they conform to the PDF/X1 standard.

Ideally, native files should be created in Quark Xpress or Adobe Indesign, with graphics from PhotoShop and Adobe Illustrator or Macromedia Freehand, as well as all fonts, included as separate files.

Scans should be in CMYK format, saved as an uncompressed TIFF file. If the scan has a clipping path, it should be saved as a PhotoShop EPS.

Vector Artwork should be saved from it's creator application into EPS format. It is recommended that no bit images be included inside of EPS artwork, and that a separate copy of the bitmap be included if this is done.

UpClose can often use files created in other programs, but can make no guarantee as to the results. This is especially true of Microsoft products. Please contact production with any specific questions.

Transportable Media:
UpClose Magazine can receive files on 100 Megabyte Zip, DVD or CD in either Windows or Mac OS formats. We can also accept 3.5" disks from either platform, but the designer should be aware that we often have corrupt files resulting from the use of this media.
